The horse stood for more then just transportation
The horse helped mankind settle this nation
They plowed our fields
And carried our mail
All for some hay
And a few oats in a pail
They carried our heros in battles and wars
Never uttering a sound or asking for more
They pulled the coaches
And many a wagon
Through rain and snow
Or heat at them naggin
They helped man migrate from the East to West
Through mountains and prairie with so little rest
And when they arrived they dug right in
Working the ranches and farms located within
But with time came inventions that retired the horse
And soon man forgot and with little remorse
The thundering hoofs of yesterdays trails
The saddles the wagons and the hay by the bales
This equine hero who lives on with pride
Has taken these changes all in their stride
Their role may have changed as roles sometime can
But this noble beast is still serving man
So while riding these old trails now covered with tar
In your pick up your semi your cycle or car
And you pass a green pasture, corral or a glen
And you see lots of horses running or grazing within
Just stop for a second and praise them of course
Because we would have nothing if it weren’t for the horse
